New release of 61850 Avenue toolset - Server profile management enhancements and TLS support with OpenSSL

We are pleased to announce the release of version 2.1.19 of the 61850 Avenue toolset scheduled for February 2026. This update delivers several functional enhancements, usability improvements, and stability fixes for improving efficiency when configuring, managing, and testing IEC 61850 based systems.

61850 Avenue client main improvements include:

  • Server profile management enhancements: The 61850 Avenue application now provides extended capabilities for managing server profiles. Users can clone existing server configurations, as well as import and export server settings using JSON files. Exporting all server profiles into a single file is supported, simplifying configuration reuse and migration between environments. The application also preserves the order of the server profile list, ensuring a consistent and user-defined arrangement across sessions.

  • TLS support with OpenSSL: TLS support has been updated by replacing the previously used EmbedTLS library with OpenSSL. This change improves compatibility, long-term maintainability, and alignment with widely adopted security standards.

  • High-resolution display support: Improved font scaling has been introduced to ensure better readability and usability on high-resolution displays.

Additional features and fixes of 61850 Avenue client:

  • Fixed issue where incoming reports were not accepted while disabling reporting was in progress.

  • Fixed issue preventing setting an IED name when functional naming was enabled.

  • Fixed behavior where new servers could be saved in read-only mode.

  • Fixed issues related to editing Setting Groups with incomplete or minimal models.

  • Improved handling of non-existent SE objects when editing Setting Groups.

61850 ICD Editor:

  • Improved GSE/SMV handling: Fixed ldInst updates after Logical Device renaming.
  • LN Editor improvements: Enhanced handling of conditions, instantiated DOs, and dataset validation.
  • Stricter dataset rules: Prevented adding CO and SE constrained data to datasets.
  • Improved conditional logic: Added support for AllOnlyOneGroup() conditions.
  • Enhanced UI feedback: Added status bar indicators for IEC 61850 edition and file modification status.
  • Extended Edition 2 templates: Added missing VSD CDC definitions to enums.
  • Edition 2 resource fixes: Corrected APC type resources for Edition 2 and Amendment 1.

GOOSE Toolset:

  • Improved routable GOOSE detection: Fixed detection issues in SCL-based configurations.
  • Enhanced GOOSE stream import: Corrected ldName and serverAt handling.
  • Updated Npcap compatibility: Removed APPID from capture filters to support latest versions.

Sampled Values Toolset:

  • Improved SV stream import: Corrected ldName and serverAt handling from SCL files.
  • Updated Npcap compatibility: Removed APPID from capture filters to support latest versions.

This release reflects our commitment to the continuous improvement of the 61850 Avenue toolset, addressing users feedback and following the evolving standards. Welcome to learn the details of the new release of the 61850 Avenue toolset.
